Fire in storage facility destroys motorized carts at Table Mountain Golf Course

OROVILLE — A fire in a cart storage facility destroyed approximately two dozen

OROVILLE — A fire in a cart storage facility destroyed approximately two dozen golf carts at the Table Mountain Golf Course on Wednesday.

Firefighters from Cal Fire-Butte County and the Oroville Fire Department heard a report of heavy black smoke rising from the storage area at 2:24 p.m. Inside the building were privately owned carts, which resemble miniature automobiles, for use during golf games. All of them were burned beyond repair.

Many of them appeared to be piles of charred metal frames with melted plastic and rubber on and around them. The burning plastic and rubber likely accounted for most of the black smoke. There was no danger of explosions from gasoline tanks, as all of the carts were battery-operated.

Table Mountain Golf Course has a set of its own carts, but course employees move these carts out of the building before play begins each morning. Those carts were unaffected by the blaze.

Fire investigators were busy examining the fire scene in an effort to determine a cause. Course operations continued as normal in spite of the destruction.
